You can also discuss the lost footage, or the chaney film in general. So what I am asking is, if you know of a private collector who may have some of this footage PLEASE convince them to come forward with it! Or if you have and footage that maybe could be the missing scenes mentioned in this post, please come forward with it! If you read this whole thread, I thank you very much. The Phantom of the Opera is a 1925 silent film directed by Rupert Julian adaptation of the Gaston Leroux novel of the same title. The film featured Lon Chaney in the title role as the masked and facially deformed Phantom who haunts the Paris Opera House, causing murder and mayhem in an attempt to force the management to make the woman he loves a star.It is most famous for Lon Chaneys. Chaney wanted to stay as close to the original Gaston Leroux novel. And many people do not know, but Lon Chnaey himself preferred the original ending to the one in the final cut. These scenes mean a lot to fans of Phantom of the Opera and fans of Lon Chaney. Despite getting only 33 percent from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, 84 percent of audiences approve of Joel Schumacher's lavish film.
#THE ORIGINAL PHANTOM OF THE OPERA MOVIE MOVIE#
The long awaited movie adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical has its fans. There are a few other scenes missing as well. 5) The Phantom of the Opera (2004) - Average Score: 36.5. If you are partial to Lloyd Webbers style, you will at least find The Phantom of the Opera palatable. The film, like the stage show, contains one great baroque theme and a lot of unmemorable drivel. Erik, The Phantom then dies of a broken heart. Ultimately, however, appreciation of The Phantom of the Opera will hinge upon your opinion of Lloyd Webbers skills as a composer. He then goes to his organ and plays Christine's wedding march, and his requiem. He then lets Christine, Raoul and the Persian (he was changed to Ledoux before the official premier) go. The Phantom is shaken by her kiss, for it was the first kiss he had ever recieved. Probably the most well known lost scene from the film is the alternate ending where after Christine is faced with the choice of marrying the Phantom, or letting Raoul die, she kisses the Phantom on the forehead, therefore saying she will marry The Phantom for Raoul's life. Raoul persues the Phantom into the chapel, and we almost get a glimpse of Chaney's "Death's Head" make-up.

And one of the larger missing scenes, a scene in the Graveyard of Viroflay when Christine visits her father's grave, meanwhile, Raoul follows her there and sees the Phantom playing the violin behind a chapel in attemp to decieve Christine. These scenes include: a few scenes with Erik, the Phantom (Lon Chaney) playing the violin behind Christine's (Mary Philbin) dressing room wall, a scene where Raoul (Norman Kerry) goes and visitas Christine's aunt Mama Velarius, (Edith Yorke) asking her about Christine and the Angel of Music. In the original version of this film, that was premiered in Los Angeles California before the final release in New York, there were many different scenes that made the film a lot different than the cut we have available today.
